World Food Safety Day

World Food Safety Day is an initiative developed by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO) who manage a Joint Food Standards Programme, the Codex Alimentarius Commission

The Bahamas Agricultural Health & Food Safety Authority (BAHFSA) works with other agencies to promote a “One Health Approach” aimed at improving the transparent administration of food safety in The Bahamas. Initatives are handled by the Food Safety and Quality (FSQ) Unit.

The FSQ hosted a series of events during June 2022 to celebrate World Food Safety Day under the theme “Safer Food, Better Health”. Speakers included Dr. Patricia Johnson (Director of FSQ), Dr. Patrica Symonette (BAHFSA Chairperson), Barbara Albries (Dep. Permanent Secretary, MOAMFIA) and a keynote address by Dr. Eldonna Boisson, the PAHA Country Representative for The Bahamas and TCI.
